Primary Grade Leader Teacher

Overall Responsibilities: 

A grade leader’s primary role is to oversee the effective application and timely submission of weekly lesson planning aligned with the International Programs host curriculum (Cambridge International Examinations Curriculum). The role of the Grade Leader consists of 3 core areas of support for student learning within their allocated Grade; curriculum planning, instructional support and assessment. 

Main Responsibilities:

Support for student learning – Grade cohort instructional support

– support grade members when needed with strategies that foster general good practice (ie planning, instruction, resources or general good practice). Support may come in the form of:  

  • Demonstration lessons  
  • Helping with lesson planning  
  • Suggesting or locating relevant resources  
  • Advice when managing student behavior or communicating with parents 

Support for student learning – Instructional and curriculum planning 

Oversee the timely submittal and competent completion of weekly planning by all Grade members. 

The following components of teacher lesson plans require monitoring:  

  • WALT (an outcome derived from the framework written in child friendly language whereby a student’s level of achievement can be assessed within the lesson).  WILFs (aligned steps or requirements that will support the students’ achievement of the WALT).  
  • Starter (re-cap or retrieval activity)  
  • Key questions (open ended, connects prior learning)  
  • Main activity (designed to support learning growth aligned with the WALT)  
  • Plenary (brief formative assessment designed to measure level of student learning according to the WALT)
  • Resources (support student achievement of the WALT) 

With the support of the Grade cohort and Primary management, construct adapted medium term plans for Grade specific areas of our core curriculum 

Support for student learning – Monthly Grade meetings 

Coordinate monthly meetings at a convenient location that includes an agenda and minutes post meeting. Points for discussion during meetings could include:  

  • Coordinating whole Grade assessments (ie writing prompt/rubric/quiz updates)  
  • Medium term plan discussions on relevant curriculum areas (ie Global Perspectives, Science…)  
  • Whole school activities pertinent to all grades  
  • Feedback from Grade members that can be shared with the primary management  
  • Save agendas and minutes taken in Teacher U – Primary – Communication – Grade Leader Meetings 

Support for student learning – Accreditation  

Lead or attend focus groups and attend relevant VC meetings 

Support for student learning – Assessment  

  • Provide Grade members with the writing assessment prompts and rubrics.  
  • If applicable, review and make edits to writing prompts and rubrics.  
  • With the support of the Grade cohort and Primary management, review and/or make edits to current in-house unit assessments in math and science.  
  • In collaboration with the Grade cohort, compile spelling words ready for end of term assessments.

Desired Qualification:

  • Bachelor Degree in Education or relevant field.
  • Solid teaching experience in an International School environment. 
  • Experienced in teaching the Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) Program is a plus.
  • At least one-year Experienced in coaching and mentoring teacher cohort in some capacity 
  • English as a first language or proof of professional English proficiency. 
  • Passionate in teaching and working with children and young people.
  • Good record of professional and personal integrity. 
  • Criminal clearance report valid no longer than the last six months.
